Fully staged operas by Rorem, Bernstein, and Puccini   Friday, August 15 at 7pm, and Sunday, August 17 at 3pm – Double-bill PERFORMANCES Ned Rorem-Four Dialogues for Two Voices and Two Pianos The words from American author Frank O’Hara’s “The Quarrel Sonata” form the libretto for this mini opera. A couple meet one another on a subway train in some undefined city, and we follow them through the dizzying heights and desperate lows of their relationship. Leonard Bernstein-Trouble in Tahiti Sam and Dinah could be called the quintessential suburban husband and wife with one child. Teetering on the complexities of marriage and relationships, they struggle to understand each other, the world around them, and their own strivings toward the American dream.
