Silver Screen Series Brings Classic Films and Community Connection to Liberty Theatre Sponsored by Clatsop Care Center Health District A new monthly matinee invites seniors to relive the golden age of cinema—free with RSVP ASTORIA, Ore. — The curtain is rising on a new community tradition at the Liberty Theatre this August: the Silver Screen (and Hair!) Series, a nostalgic black-and-white film series created especially for seniors and lovers of classic cinema. The first screening, featuring Casablanca (1942), takes place Tuesday, August 5 at 1:00 p.m. in the Liberty’s historic main auditorium. Admission is free with RSVP through Clatsop Care Center Health District or the Astoria Senior Center. The series is a collaboration between Liberty Theatre, Clatsop Care, and the Astoria Senior Center—designed to bring people together around timeless films, shared memories, and a warm, welcoming environment. “Watching these films in this beautiful, historic theatre—surrounded by community—is an experience that touches the heart,” said a spokesperson for Clatsop Care. “It’s more than just entertainment—it’s about connection and joy.” The Silver Screen (and Hair!) Series is proudly sponsored by Clatsop Care Center Health District, and features a new film the first Tuesday of each month. Attendees will enjoy: • Beloved black-and-white classics from the 1930s–1960s • ADA-accessible seating and assisted listening devices • Optional transportation for Clatsop Care residents and coordinated group visits • Lobby resource tables featuring senior services and legacy giving opportunities Each screening will also include a short pre-show video spotlighting Clatsop Care’s services, the Astoria Senior Center, and the Liberty Theatre’s Legacy Donors Club.
